Quaint dwelling; antique wiring
Compared to the moderate electrical demands of our parents and grandparents - many of the things we rely upon, in and around our homes today, require electricity. The list is extensive - lighting, appliances, A/C units, televisions, sound systems, ceiling fans, clocks, cell phone chargers and even some of our cars require electrical panels to supply these requirements. Outdated panels, like the antiquated fuse box on the right, are commonly identified.
Most fuse boxes have been replaced in homes and businesses, by panels with breakers, as seen below. This Load Center contains the current standard of circuit breakers that can be reset. We strongly recommend replacing electrical fuse boxes with modern electrical equipment that meets current safety standards. |
Yes, your panel can look like this!
A 200-ampere Load Center located inside a home is a common electrical panel solution. Ideally, the circuits can be balanced between phases, as shown in the panel to the left. Having a knowledgeable electrician determine if the loads on your existing panel are balanced and insuring the wiring is neatly installed, can alleviate possible fire hazards. |
Zap, crackle - POP!

Zinsco panels, once popular and widely used for many years, are hazardous. Today's over current protection standards offer increased safety to prevent fires and electrical shock. If you, or someone you know, has a Zinsco panel, we strongly recommend replacing it . Become more aware of hazards associated with Zinsco panels. |
